In 2018, Dragsholm Slot was accepted to the prestigious hotel and restaurant guide "Relais & Châteaux", which lists the world elite of the hotel and restaurant scene.
Before being awarded membership, it had been Dragsholm Slot’s goal for ten years to reach the required standards of the Relais & Châteaux guide with a view to joining the association one day. And joining such fine company is not merely a formality. In order to be approved as a member, the castle had to undergo a longer application process, which involved unannounced inspector visits and careful examination of the castle, its restaurants, its hotel rooms, its hospitality and its standard of service.
RELAIS & CHÂTEAUX - A GUARANTOR FOR THE UNIQUE HOST
Relais & Châteaux is the story of women and men, owners of charming hotels and unique restaurants who decided to unite and share their passion with others.
The story began in 1954, when music-hall artistes Marcel and Nelly Tilloy, who owned La Cardinale, a hotel with a restaurant on the banks of the Rhône River, came up with the idea of creating “La Route du Bonheur”- The road to happiness - as a route from Paris to Nice.
Originally, there were eight separate properties, each authentic but with its own personality. Located far from cities on the way from Paris to Nice and all united by the shared values of high standards of service, remarkable cuisine and a special approach to the concept of “Art de vivre” - the Art of Living. This original agreement was the starting point for what would later become the most prestigious hotelier association in the world: Relais & Châteaux.

The association now has more than 560 members spread over 60 countries. RELAIS & CHÂTEAUX BOARD AT DRAGSHOLM SLOT
For the first time in many years, Relais & Châteaux decided to hold a major board meeting at the premises of a new and untested member. In June 2019, Dragsholm Slot was therefore delighted to welcome the board of Relais & Châteaux, which has members from all over the world. In connection with the meetings, the association’s president, Philippe Gombert and the castle's owner, Mads Hylleholt Bøttger, planted an oak in the castle's park to commemorate the acceptance of Dragsholm Slot as a member of the association.
The oak will grow and develop over many years. It will become strong and interact beautifully with the other trees in the park, just as Dragsholm Slot will in collaboration with Relais & Châteaux.
