About Herskabsstald

Herskabsstalden is the first place you encounter on arrival at Dragsholm Slot. Here you will find the reception, where you check in for your stay, and it is also where breakfast is served for guests staying at the castle. During holiday periods, the café is open, offering a relaxed setting for both hotel guests and visitors. A place to pause and unwind, with the castle’s history and surrounding nature as a quiet backdrop.

Table reservations are not available in Herskabsstalden. Guests are welcome to visit on a walk-in basis.

For a more substantial meal, we recommend lunch or dinner at the castle’s Bistro. Here, the menu is shaped by the local landscape and seasonal ingredients of Odsherred.

Parking on the castle grounds is complimentary when you make a purchase at Herskabsstalden or the castle.

Organic & Vegan

Ice Pops from Vild Is at Dragsholm Slot

As part of the flavours of summer at Dragsholm Slot, you can now discover ice pops from Vild Is in the Castle Shop – created with respect for nature and the ingredients it provides.

At Vild Is, each ice pop is handmade in Denmark using pure, organic ingredients, free from artificial colours and additives, and crafted with a simple approach to flavour. Nothing unnecessary is added – only what is needed to highlight the fruit’s natural character. The result is ice pops with a fresh, vibrant taste that evokes sun-ripened berries and the Danish summer landscape.

At Dragsholm Slot, we have selected four varieties that each capture the essence of the season: Red Currant, Raspberry, Strawberry, and Sea Buckthorn. All ice pops are vegan and made with natural ingredients. They are also gluten-free – with the exception of the red currant variety.

The flavours range from lightly tart and refreshing to sweet and full-bodied – perfect as a cooling pause in the castle park or as a small treat to round off your visit.

A simple pleasure, where the pure taste of nature is allowed to shine.

The Story of the Herskabsstalden

Herskabsstalden was originally built as a counterpart to the dairy that had been constructed five years earlier on the opposite side of the road leading to the castle. Together, the two neo-Gothic buildings formed a gateway to Dragsholm Slot. When the dairy was demolished in the 1940s, Herskabsstalden remained - once home to the estate’s riding horses and carriages.

Today, the building has been thoughtfully transformed to serve a new purpose within the life of the castle, while continuing to play an active role in the story of the surrounding region. Just as the castle once helped drive the development of local agriculture - introducing drainage systems, steam power, profit-sharing initiatives for farmers and the reclamation of Lammefjorden - Herskabsstalden now contributes to the growth of agriculture and food production. Facilities have been established for food craftsmanship, processing and the sale of local produce and artisanal goods.

At the same time, the building’s defining architectural features have been carefully restored. The large carriage doors now stand open to welcome guests, and the former horse stalls have been adapted into spaces for visitors. The result is a setting that conveys both the building’s history and its contemporary function. Externally, the restoration has reinstated the stable’s classical appearance while ensuring its preservation for the future.

The project "Herskabsstalden at Dragsholm Slot: Innovation and Development" has received support from LAG Midt-Nordvestsjælland and Realdania. We are grateful for this valuable support.
